ArmHiTec 2016, First International Exhibition of Arms and Defence Technologies: outcomes and prospects
From 13 to 15 October, 2016 First International Exhibition of Arms and Defence Technologies was held in Yerevan, Armenia.
The exhibition was organized by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. The exhibition operators were Yerevan Plant of Mathematical Machines, Plc (CSJC ‘YMMP’) and Exhibition Companies Group ‘Bizon’ (ECG ‘OVK ‘Bizon’, PLC).
ArmHiTec 2016 has become a high-profile event in the military-technical developments market of Armenia as well as for industry representatives from different countries.
As the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Vigen Sargsyan pointed out during his address at the exhibition, Armenia has sufficient potential in the area of advanced technologies to implement state-of-the-art developments in the field of defence and to create a favourable investment climate. He stressed that the ArmHiTec 2016 exhibition will add to the expansion of the global reach of political and economic cooperation and the growth of military industry potential of the participants of the event.
Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Nikolay Bordiuzha, Secretary General as well as the delegates of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) session held in Yerevan at the very same time.
The principal display was the exhibition stand of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia dedicated to the main tendencies in modernization and upgrading of the military-technical equipment of the Armenian Armed Forces.
The Armenian defence-industrial complex was represented by 20 military equipment manufacturers and companies operating in the field of IT-technologies.
More than 30 manufacturers from Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan and the USA have showcased their products at the ArmHiTec exhibition. More than 120 systems and equipment samples of armament and defence were exhibited at the stands of foreign companies.
ArmHiTec 2016 was visited by the high-ranking officials and the representatives of the departments and sections of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, of General Staff of the RA Armed Forces as well as other state bodies, those representing Ministries of Defence and Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO states, representatives of industrial and business circles of Europe and the Middle East. Overall, the exhibition was visited by more than 5000 people.
The ArmHiTec exhibition business program became the platform for more than 40 bilateral and multilateral international business events. The highlights of the program were the international research-to-practice conference ‘The Role of 21 st Century Technologies in the Modernization and Development of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia within the Framework of International Cooperation’, International Cybersecurity Conference within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) agenda, session of the Business Council under the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) Interstate Economic Cooperation Commission. On the whole, more than 500 experts participated in the business program events.
National Defence and Security Contest was held for the participants of the ArmHiTec 2016 exhibition. The selected winners of the contest were awarded medals and Grand Prix custom-tailored for the exhibition by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the decision of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, the next International Exhibition of Arms and Defence technologies, ArmHiTec 2016 exhibition, will be held in 2018.
